A Better Milkshake

I have been struggling with pregnancy cravings lately. With my daughter, it was horrible. I wanted sweets constantly- specifically double chocolate chip cookies from Subway and from Subway only (Andrew only made that mistake once). This pregnancy, however, I have not had as many cravings; must be the boy thing. HOWEVER, recently I have had horrible sweet craving- I blame the Girl Scouts. And although I admit that I ate an entire box of Samoas in three days, I am really trying to find alternatives for my sweet tooth.

Although my previous post on energy bites is a better option than a row of Samoas, I still wanted to find an even healthier alternative. Last week, I accidently made a smoothie that that really hit the spot. I typically make a simple post-workout smoothie of powdered peanut butter, banana, and milk. However, this time I added some of my dark chocolate chips and some ice cubes. I do not why I never added ice cubes before, but they really made it feel like I was having a chocolate chip milkshake and it nipped that sweet tooth right in bud. I would like to try again utilizing frozen bananas- stay tuned for my banana “nice-cream” recipe!

Yields: 1 serving

All you need:

  • 1 cup skim milk (or lactose-free milk, if desired)
  • 1 tbsp. powdered peanut butter, original flavor (can also use creamy peanut butter)
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tbsp. dark chocolate chips
  • 4-5 ice cubes

All you do:

  • Blend together and enjoy!
